Female soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia have been encouraged to focus on personal development, financial discipline, and career growth to improve their livelihoods and future prospects.
The call was made during an engagement with female personnel in Mogadishu by the Uganda Contingent Administration Officer, Colonel Hamza Kasajja, who urged them to set clear aspirations, invest in education, embrace technology, and explore income-generating opportunities such as farming and business.
Col Kasajja emphasized the importance of saving and investing while serving, noting that these efforts can help improve their lives beyond military service. He also highlighted the growing opportunities available to women within the UPDF and peace support operations.
The Contingent Political Commissar, Major Jackson Mazingo, praised the female soldiers for their discipline, professionalism, and contribution to the mission, encouraging them to remain committed to efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Somalia.
Meanwhile, the Contingent Gender Officer, Lieutenant Collins Awino, underscored the importance of integrity, professionalism, and a strong work ethic, describing them as essential qualities for career advancement and effective military service.
The engagement was part of ongoing initiatives by the Uganda Contingent to empower female personnel, improve their welfare, and strengthen their participation in peace support operations under AUSSOM.
