The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has officially submitted signature endorsements for its presidential flag bearer, Jimmy Akena, paving the way for his candidacy in the 2026 general elections.

The submission, completed on 8th September 2025, reportedly included support from across the country.

In a statement, UPC praised party leadership and members for their role in collecting the signatures on time, describing the effort as “tremendous” in preparation for the forthcoming elections.

The party also congratulated its flag bearers who have already been nominated for local government positions and urged others, particularly those aspiring for parliamentary seats, to prepare for nominations by securing party endorsements early.

UPC spokesperson Sharon Arach Oyat expressed appreciation to the Independent Electoral Commission for facilitating the nomination process and said the party is now awaiting the official nomination of Akena for the presidency, while continuing nationwide mobilization.
