The State House has confirmed that the Uganda Cranes have secured their first cash prize of Shs 1.2 billion following their 3-0 win over Guinea in the African Nations Championship, CHAN. Uganda were left stunned after FUFA president Eng.

Moses Magogo told the Cranes team that the President has pledged Shs 1.2 billion for every win in the tournament.

Unfair for the team, they lost the first game 3-0 to Algeria at Namboole Stadium. However, the boys were back for redemption last night as they thumped Guinea.

A first-half goal from Reagan Mpande erupted at Namboole before Allan Okello converted from the spot in the second half to throw the whole stadium into an array of emotions. Substitute Ivan Ahimbisibwe completed the icing on the cake as he netted the third in the latter minutes of the game.

Taking to X, State House tweeted ‘1.2’ just confirming that the Cranes were about to feast real good. Speaking in the post-match conference, man of the match, Allan Okello, said that they were not distracted by the money but rather focused on getting the best results. He, however, appreciated the President for this gesture.

Meanwhile, this win left Morley Byekwaso’s side in the second position in Group C, a point behind leaders Algeria, who drew earlier with South Africa 1-1. Next up for the boys will be South Africa’s Bafana Bafan,a with a win boosting the hosts’ chances of making it to the knockout stages.
