Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, has been hit with another tragedy following the death of a student by the name of Muhoozi Edgar Tumwebaze, a member of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

According to the university, Edgar tragically drowned while swimming and was rushed to C-Care Hospital, but sadly, he could not be saved. The university released a statement:

“It is with deep sorrow to announce the passing of Muhoozi Edgar Tumwebaze, a student in the Faculty of Civil Engineering. He tragically drowned while swimming and was rushed to C-Care Hospital, but sadly could not be saved. Further details to follow. R.I.P Edgar.”

This incident comes as UCU is still mourning the murder of its Dean of Students, Pamela Tumwebaze, who was attacked by unknown assailants and killed on the night of Tuesday, February 10, 2026. Pamela’s death, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, shocked the university community.

She was last seen addressing students at Nkoyoyo Hall during a community worship service, where she spoke about building healthy relationships among students.

By press time, police had not released a statement on either incident. The university has urged students, staff, and the public to uphold the families of both Pamela and Edgar in their prayers while more information emerges.

UCU described both individuals as dedicated members of the university community, with Pamela being a respected leader and Edgar a promising student in the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
