Police at Wandegeya Division are holding two suspects in connection with the murder of Kabugo, a 34-year-old resident of Kalerwe.

The suspects, identified as Ssebuya and Johnson, were arrested following a swift investigation aided by a police sniffer dog after the victim’s body was discovered near the fence of Dusuma Garage at around 8:00 am yesterday.

According to preliminary findings, officers responded to information about a body lying near the garage and immediately deployed the Police K9 unit to assist with tracking.

Upon arrival, the sniffer dog, Pepper, was introduced to the scene and picked up a scent from the body. The dog tracked for approximately 10 metres before entering the house of the garage askari (security guard).

It later exited and continued tracking within the garage premises, moving around the fence before returning inside.

Pepper eventually led officers to a specific spot where the askari and other workers usually sit during working hours. The dog indicated the presence of crucial evidence by lying down — a trained signal to handlers.

At that exact location, officers recovered a metal bar stained with what is believed to be blood. Investigators suspect the object may have been used to assault the deceased.

A further search in the askari’s house led to the recovery of spears and arrows, which were taken as exhibits.

The two suspects remain detained at Wandegeya Police Division as investigations continue.
