KAMPALA — Three people, including two Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) game rangers, have been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations of obtaining millions of shillings from job seekers after promising to secure them employment with the wildlife agency.
The suspects are Dan Kamugisha, 39, a resident of Kanungu District; George Habasa, 41, a game ranger attached to the Katungulu sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park and a resident of Rubirizi District; and Rosemary Asiimwe, also known as Recheal, a businesswoman from Kirugu Village in Rubirizi District.
The trio appeared before City Hall Senior Principal Magistrate Nicholas Aisu and denied the allegations.
Prosecution alleges that the suspects committed the offences between May and June 2026 at UWA headquarters in Kololo.
According to the charge sheet presented by prosecutor Mercy Yamangusho, the accused allegedly obtained Shs5 million from Justus Akampulira after falsely representing that they could secure him employment at UWA.
They are further accused of obtaining another Shs5 million from David Naturinda using the same representation.
The prosecution told court that the alleged scheme involved several other job seekers, who reportedly paid money after being promised UWA jobs.
Those named as complainants include Brenda Kabagenyi, Rachel Ainembabazi, Mackson Nuwamanya, Naume Natukunda, Samuel Bitarabeho, Ivan Nkamwesiga and Chance Amos.
Prosecution alleges that each of the complainants lost Shs5 million in the process.
The accused applied for bail, but the prosecution opposed their release, arguing that they had not presented substantial sureties capable of securing their attendance in court.
After considering the application, the court ordered that the three be remanded to Luzira Prison.
Magistrate Aisu set October 13, 2026, for a ruling on the bail application.
The accused have not been convicted of the offences. They denied the allegations in court and remain presumed innocent until proven guilty.
