Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has called on Omoro District residents to protect the Oulanyah family’s political legacy by supporting MP Andrew Ojok Oulanyah. He made the plea during the burial of Mzee Nathan Okori, father of the late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, emphasizing unity and poverty alleviation efforts.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa urged Omoro District residents to rally behind Hon. Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, their MP, to preserve the political legacy of the Oulanyah family. He stressed that backing him is essential to continue the vision and service established by his late father, former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
Tayebwa delivered these remarks on March 31, 2026, at the burial of Mzee Nathan Okori in Lalogi sub-county, Omoro District. Okori, who lived to 97, received a vibrant farewell with traditional Bwola dancers leading the procession as locals celebrated his impactful life.
The Deputy Speaker praised the unity among Acholi leaders, noting their goals align with the National Resistance Movement’s national priorities. He highlighted the upcoming focus on poverty eradication and urged regional collaboration for socio-economic progress.
Tayebwa shared that members of his team had worked under the late Jacob Oulanyah, underscoring the strong ties between the family and government. He extended President Yoweri Museveni’s condolences, who lauded Okori for nurturing disciplined leaders contributing to Uganda’s development.
Justice Minister Norbert Mao commended Speaker Anita Among, Tayebwa, and Chief Justice Emeritus Alfonse Owiny-Dollo for their support to the family. The event drew government officials, MPs, and local leaders, reflecting the Oulanyah family’s lasting influence.
