She Cares Foundation Uganda has donated over 85 pairs of school shoes to the pupils of Mihembero C.O.U Primary School on the 17th of July 2026, in Masindi district.
Mihembero Primary School is a mixed-gender government school, located in Kihara village, Bwijanga sub-county, Kitamba parish, Masindi District, and has 410 learners, as elaborated by the Headteacher. Kanyamwenge Jonathan, the Headteacher of Mihembero C.O.U Primary School, appreciated the government for the support rendered to this school, for instance, the support of learners through Uganda Primary Education, the renovation of two classroom blocks, among others.
He welcomed and thanked the guests from She Cares Foundation Uganda for choosing Mihembero Primary School, citing that this help to the learners shall help them improve on the sanitation and hygiene while at school. He asked the parents to mobilise their children and keep sending them to school because the teachers are always there and ready to teach them.
Musinguzi Benezer, the chairperson LC1, appreciated She Cares Foundation for thinking about and choosing Mihembero Primary School among the many schools that are in a bad state, and showed his concern, saying that, if possible, each learner deserves to get a pair. He blessed everyone who supported the cause towards helping the young learners and asked them to continue with that spirit far beyond Masindi district.
Babwetera Nicholas, the area councillor of Bwijanga sub-county in the district who is also the chairperson of the social services committee at Masindi district local government, showed excitement for seeing such an initiative for the first time happening in his constituency. He said that he has always heard about this foundation and he was glad to get a chance to interact with the foundation members, hence knowing more about what they do.
He explained that the support the government gives to our schools is less than 50% of what is needed, adding that it is a good gesture and achievement seeing She Cares Foundation and Miss Tourism coming to help learners who really need a lot of support.
He furthermore loved the criteria the foundation used while selecting a school to help because Mihembero Primary School hardly had any learners putting on shoes, yet it is a necessity for sanitation and hygiene purposes.
Judith Kemigisa, the project’s director at She Cares Foundation Uganda, told the learners that the foundation members were so excited to put a smile on their faces. She said that this project was purely for She Cares Foundation; however, they were escorted by queens from the Miss Tourism Bunyoro pageant to witness the smiles drawn on the faces of learners.
Katusiime Swabra, the founder and chairperson of She Cares Foundation Uganda, said she was glad to fulfil the promise she had made a few weeks ago to come and share smiles with the learners of Mihembero C.O.U Primary School.
She described the foundation as a community-based organisation that believes in creating smiles through the simplest acts of kindness. She added that those smiles are created after identifying needs in a community, for example, social needs like education and child protection, among others, and then mobilising the community for resources, partnerships and volunteers to find solutions.
‘’Today in particular, we have moved as we are with pairs of school shoes. We posted on our social media handles asking people around us if they knew any community or school that needed shoes, and Mihembero Church of Uganda Primary School was identified. We came for a needs assessment, and indeed the learners here needed shoes. We went back to our community, our friends and all the people who believe in us, and we were able to raise a number of shoes we are going to share with you as we also create smiles, and I pray you really smile after getting a pair of shoes.’’ Swabra explained.
She also expressed gratitude to God for the resources and the grace given to the foundation members who are trusted by other people during mobilisation processes since they are normal youths who are trying to identify themselves in the world. She also appreciated everyone who supported by contributing to the shoes the learners received.
She additionally appreciated the foundation team for their efforts rendered towards this purpose and made it successful. She lastly appreciated the school administration of Mihembero C.O.U Primary School for the coordination.
Swabra assured the learners that they will get a pair of shoes and promised those who missed to be patient and wait for the second phase to ensure all learners smile. She therefore called upon members of the community and well-wishers to continue supporting these learners, especially those 115 pupils who missed getting shoes.
‘’After the distribution of shoes, we shall have a tree-planting session as a way of conserving the environment as well as creating a good relationship with you. I urge every learner to keep watering these trees in honour of our relationship, and we shall keep coming to check on you and the trees.’’ Swabra concluded.
87 pairs of shoes were distributed, and two trees were planted in remembrance of this action.
