President Museveni has fulfilled his pledge of paying Uganda Cranes CHAN players Shs1.2 billion per win.

This was confirmed by the State Minister for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, during Parliament plenary today, Wednesday, 10th September 2025.

Addressing Members of Parliament, Ogwang said the issue of the Shs2.4 billion allocated for the Uganda Cranes is no longer just a promise.

“The funds have now been disbursed directly into the individual accounts of the players and the entire team that participated in CHAN 2024,” Ogwang said, receiving applause from excited MPs.

President Museveni had, before the 2024 CHAN tournament kick-off that was co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, promised the Cranes Shs1.2 billion per win.

The Cranes, however, fell to Algeria before they recovered to beat Guinea and Niger respectively and drew 3:3 with South Africa to earn a place in the quarter finals.

Although they lost the quarter-final match to Senegal by a lone goal, Minister Ogwang says the Cranes CHAN team did Uganda proud.

He also revealed the First Family will be hosting the Uganda Cranes at State House, Entebbe on the evening of Wednesday, 10th September 2025, in appreciation of their recent wins against Somalia and Mozambique.
