The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Judith Nabakooba, narrowly escaped serious injury following a road crash in Mpigi District that left one person dead.
The incident occurred Wednesday morning at Kibukuta swamp along the busy Kampala–Masaka highway, where the minister’s convoy was en route to Rwampara District for an official engagement.
Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle carrying the minister struck a pedestrian, who died instantly at the scene. Nabakooba and her driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to Nkozi Hospital, where they received treatment.
Sources said the minister remained conscious after the crash and was able to speak shortly afterwards, suggesting her condition was stable.
Police have since commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident, including whether speed, road conditions, or other factors may have contributed.
The Kampala–Masaka highway is among Uganda’s busiest transport corridors and has long been associated with frequent road accidents, raising renewed concerns about safety enforcement and driver conduct.
Authorities say more details will be released as inquiries into the crash continue.
