President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, also the National Resistance Movement party presidential candidate on Friday, 24th October 2025 unveiled a sweeping plan to upgrade health facilities and empower the youth through skilling programs in Abim district.

Addressing thousands of jubilant supporters at Abim Primary School Grounds, Museveni vowed that his government will in the new upgrade seven health centres across Abim District from Health Centre II to III status.

The facilities include Gangming, Katabok, Atunga, Opopongo, Kiru, and Obolokome, while new health centres will be constructed in Areke and Camkok within Abuk Town Council.

Some of the NRM supporters who welcomed president Museveni.

He also revealed that government is currently constructing maternity blocks, outpatient departments, staff houses, and sanitation facilities at Awach, Arembwola, and Wilela Health Centres, all aimed at bringing medical services closer to mothers and children.

“Our mothers must deliver safely, our health workers must live decently, and our people must not walk long distances to seek treatment. We are upgrading every part of Uganda, step by step,” said Museveni.

He said his government will not tolerate the theft of public funds meant for community development, saying he had already ordered an investigation into the missing Shs 50 million meant for graduates of Skilling Hub in Abim district.

“That money was meant to help our young people start businesses. Whoever ate it will vomit it! We cannot tolerate parasites who eat what belongs to the poor,” the President roared, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

Museveni emphasized that the NRM government’s commitment to fighting corruption remains unshaken, adding that the misuse of funds meant for youth empowerment was an attack on the country’s future.

“Those who steal from the people are enemies of development. We shall deal with them the way we dealt with the cattle rustlers,” he warned.

The President rallied residents to embrace the four-acre model of modern farming and to utilize skills acquired through government skilling hubs to create wealth.

He cited the success story of Dick Korea, a local mango farmer from Abim who now earns Shs 36 million annually, as proof that determination and government support can lift families out of poverty.

“You can all become rich if you use the land well and apply the knowledge we are giving you through these skilling centres. The era of complaining is over, the era of doing has come,” Museveni urged.

Museveni said his new government term will prioritize youth skilling, value addition, and small-scale industrialization, noting that the future of Uganda depends on an empowered and disciplined youth population.

Local leaders and residents hailed Museveni’s message, saying the planned health upgrades and anti-corruption stance would bring long-awaited change to the region.

They, however, appealed to the government to address persistent wildlife invasions from Kidepo National Park and cattle rustling from neighboring districts, which continue to threaten livelihoods.

Museveni reassured the people that security, health, and wealth creation remain his top priorities.

“Abim will not be left behind. We shall build, we shall develop, and we shall defeat corruption and poverty together,” he declared.

On Saturday, President Museveni will campaign in Karenga and Kabong districts where he will unveil the NRM plans in the new government once re-elected.
