Uganda’s premier cultural pageant, Miss Tourism Uganda, has unveiled its 2026–2027 edition, officially opening applications to aspiring contestants nationwide.
The announcement was made during a launch event held Monday at the Kampala Serena Hotel, signaling the start of a series of regional activations scheduled for early 2026.
This year’s edition will revolve around the theme “AI, Culture and Tourism,” a concept designed to explore how modern technology can be used to preserve cultural heritage and elevate Uganda’s tourism profile both locally and on the global stage.
Organizers say the competition is focused on identifying passionate young women and men to act as ambassadors for tourism. Participants will play a role in promoting Uganda’s diverse traditions while advocating for conservation and sustainable tourism growth.
The grand finale is set for September 4, 2026, and will also be hosted at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Key players from the tourism and cultural industries attended the launch, including the current titleholder, Nachap Kezia Cindy. She used the platform to encourage more young women across the country to step forward and participate.
She emphasized that the competition offers a valuable opportunity for personal growth and national representation, urging interested candidates not to hesitate in applying.
Cindy also highlighted the importance of regional participation, noting that the journey begins at the grassroots level where contestants first compete within their respective regions.
According to the organizers, this year’s theme reflects a blend of Uganda’s heritage and innovation, positioning technology as a tool for telling authentic cultural stories in new and engaging ways.
In a significant shift, the pageant has continued to expand its inclusivity. While it was initially exclusive to women, a parallel category for male contestants was introduced in 2025, allowing more young people to actively contribute to tourism promotion.
Since its inception in 2013, Miss Tourism Uganda has served as a platform for celebrating the nation’s cultural richness, bringing together representatives from 12 regional clusters to showcase Uganda’s unique traditions and tourism potential.
