Buddo, Wakiso — Busiro East MP Medard Lubega Ssegona today held a spirited campaign rally in Buddo where he defended his long-standing representation in Parliament and dismissed criticism over his extended tenure.

Responding to concerns about having served for 15 years, Ssegona questioned the logic of repeated voter support if his leadership was indeed in doubt. “Those who say I’ve served too long—why then do they all vote in every election that happens?” he asked the crowd.

In a strongly worded speech, Ssegona also took a swipe at fellow politician Kiyimba, recalling an incident during the current term that began in 2021. He claimed he intervened when the government threatened to evict residents from swamp land, saying Kiyimba was among those affected. “I helped that fool,” Ssegona said, before criticizing Kiyimba for later accusing him of not providing an ambulance—something Ssegona said was clarified in official minutes.

The legislator further insisted that procuring ambulances is a government responsibility, not a personal one. “Buying an ambulance is not my job. People should be careful when making such claims,” he warned, adding, “Njagala twogeere ebyamageezi, era silimukogeera nabo abalekana,” loosely translated as “I want us to speak intelligently, I don’t argue with those looking for fights.”

During the Q&A session, a registered voter named Bukenya Brain challenged Ssegona, asking if he would consider stepping aside after this term. In response, Ssegona shot back: “If you want me to leave, why do you also keep voting in all elections?”

Despite the tense moments, the MP received praise from Ssekaayi Simon, a resident who appreciated his role in extending electricity to rural parts of the village, saying the development had improved lives.

Ssegona’s rally highlights the growing tension in Busiro East as veteran politicians face rising demands for generational change, yet continue to command notable support from sections of the electorate.
