Rising dancehall star Mark Da Urban is making waves—not just with his music, but with his bold statements about his place in the Ugandan dancehall scene. In a recent media chat, the self-assured artiste confidently declared that he is “one of the best and most talented dancehall artistes in the country.”

According to Mark, this belief doesn’t stem from arrogance, but from a deep-rooted passion and dedication to the genre. “Dancehall music is what I truly believe I am meant to do. It is my life, my hobby, and I want to turn it into my profession,” he shared.

Mark also took time to acknowledge and honour the legends who paved the way, naming industry heavyweights like Menton Summer, General Mega Dee, Peter Miles, Weather Man, Kidd Fox, Margla Da Ga Dem, Bella, and Cindy as some of the icons he looks up to.

He didn’t stop there. Mark gave a nod to his contemporaries as well, citing names such as Vyper Rankings, Ziza Bafana, and Mudra D Viral as current forces in the dancehall movement. But while he respects them, he remains firm in his belief that when it comes to a musical clash, no one from this generation can stand in his way.

“I can go toe to toe with any one of them in a battle, and deep down I believe they cannot beat me. I said I am one of the best, not the best, to pay respect and not to disregard them,” Mark emphasised.

He made it clear that in the world of dancehall, mutual respect exists—but in a battle setting, it’s all about lyrical firepower and stage dominance. “Respect is there, yes—but when we enter the battlefield, that respect takes a back seat,” he concluded.

With this mix of humility, confidence, and raw talent, Mark Da Urban is certainly one to watch in the ever-evolving dancehall arena. Whether fans agree with his bold claims or not, one thing’s for sure—he’s ready to prove it.
