Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence, Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, has shared her thoughts on Uganda’s presidential race and even provided some advice to NUP president Bobi Wine. She advised the musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine to take a more direct approach to leadership.

Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso urged him to focus on leading from within the country rather than reporting issues to those abroad, especially Americans and Europeans.

“Let him not run to America to report; instead, let him remain and lead from here while raising those issues,” she said.

She also gave her comments about the large number of aspiring presidential candidates. So far, 160 individuals have already picked nomination forms for the upcoming presidential elections.

Describing the large pool of aspirants, Lt. Gen. Nalweyiso remarked, “People who want to be president should not present themselves that way, because even the public cannot trust them. This is more of a comedy.”

She expressed concern that some candidates appear disconnected from the realities of ordinary Ugandans. Meanwhile, Nalweyiso, who seems to have a soft spot for Bobi Wine, also added, “I ask my son, Bobi Wine, to start from here, as he was named president by the people from the ghetto.”

She emphasised that true leadership should come from understanding and serving the people directly, rather than relying solely on external advocacy.

Bobi Wine is currently overseas drumming up support both financially and physically ahead of the 2026 general elections, where he’s expected to face off with President Museveni for the second time.
