After a six-year break, the Kampala City Festival is officially making a comeback. The long-awaited return was launched on August 6, 2025, at a ceremony held at the KCCA Mayor’s Gardens.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Hajat Sharifah Buzeki, announced that this year’s edition will take place on October 5, beginning with a vibrant three-hour street procession through selected routes and climaxing at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
According to Buzeki, the revival of the festival was prompted by high public demand, with many Ugandans calling for its return as a way to promote Kampala as a hub of culture and tourism.
“The people of Kampala have missed everything — the energy, the vibe, the sense of ownership. This festival is their heart and soul,” she said.
Themed “Celebrating Kampala: Culture, Innovation and Sustainability,” the 2025 edition marks a shift from previous versions that were largely focused on entertainment. This year’s festival will feature a diverse line-up of activities including cultural exhibitions, environmental clean-up drives, innovation expos, food and craft fairs, music performances, health camps, and more.
“This is more than a festival — it’s a homecoming,” Buzeki noted. “We want every resident, every dweller, and every friend of Kampala to reconnect with the city.”
She expressed gratitude to the organising committee, political leaders, private sector players, and development partners for their support. Buzeki also revealed that 90% of invited potential sponsors have already shown interest in backing the festival.
Calling on the public to embrace the event, she urged citizens to take ownership and support local businesses.
“Support local entrepreneurs. Buy Uganda. Showcase what you’ve done. Let’s make this celebration count,” she said.
