The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, has revealed that the party has seen an overwhelming number of youth expressing interest in contesting for parliamentary and local government positions in the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Odoi noted that the surge in youthful aspirants reflects a generational shift in leadership and political engagement. He emphasized that while the youth are coming in large numbers, the party is also committed to engaging with veteran cadres to ensure a smooth transition and inclusive participation.

“So far, by the end of day three since the nominations began, 146 individuals have expressed interest in parliamentary positions, while 67 have picked nomination forms for local government roles,” said Dr. Odoi.

He added, “Being around for many years doesn’t mean you’re irrelevant. We’re ready to engage our senior cadres to find common ground. That’s how NRM operates. We are setting up a committee to move across the country and hold discussions with former MPs and elderly party members who have shown interest in contesting.”

Among the notable aspirants who picked nomination forms today is Seth Murari, who is contesting for the Lord Mayorship of Mbarara City. Seth Murari expressed his ambition to transform Mbarara into a model city.

“I have traveled around the world and seen how things are done. I’m bringing a wealth of experience to Mbarara to fix what hasn’t worked from infrastructure to living standards,” said Seth Murari.
