Election Dispute: Tumwebaze Seeks Nullification of Sodo’s Win in Mawogola North

Mawogola North parliamentary aspirant Jet John Tumwebaze has petitioned the High Court in Masaka, seeking to overturn the election of Godfrey Aine Kaguta, popularly known as Sodo.

The petition, filed on 30 March, challenges the outcome of the 15 January polls in which Sodo, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, was declared winner by the Electoral Commission.

Official results showed Sodo securing 12,895 votes, ahead of Tumwebaze, an independent candidate, who polled 6,426 votes.

Through his legal team, Tumwebaze accuses Sodo—who is also a younger brother to President Yoweri Museveni—of presenting forged academic documents during nomination. He argues that Sodo does not meet the academic qualifications required to contest for Parliament.

The petition further alleges widespread electoral malpractice, including vote rigging, violence, and the involvement of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in the electoral process.

Tumwebaze is asking the court to nullify the election results and order fresh polls.
