Socialite Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after being charged with 127 counts of obtaining money by false pretence from job seekers.
Don Chris appeared before City Hall Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon, where the charges were read to him by Magistrate Nicholas Aisu.
The prosecution alleges that between 2022 and 2025, Don Chris collected millions of shillings from hundreds of job seekers after claiming that he could secure them employment abroad.
The alleged destinations included Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.
The charges are contained in seven separate charge sheets, each listing about 20 complainants who allegedly paid money in pursuit of jobs overseas.
Prosecution alleges that the complainants were induced to part with their money after being given false assurances that they would be assisted to obtain employment in foreign countries.
Don Chris, who was recently arrested in Zzana, is a former director of the now-defunct labour recruitment company Sky Pins.
Following the reading of the charges, the court ordered that he be remanded to Luzira Prison.
He is expected back in court on September 21 for mention of the case. The prosecution’s allegations have not been tested in a full trial. Don Chris is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
