Yumbe, Uganda A tragic road accident in Odriga village along the Yumbe–Koboko highway has claimed the life of a Primary Three pupil and left three others injured, sparking grief and calls for increased road safety in the West Nile region.

The crash occurred on Wednesday morning when a Toyota Wish, driven by a 20-year-old local resident, Sharif Wajarasu, collided head-on with a motorcycle transporting schoolchildren. The motorcycle was reportedly carrying four individuals at the time, including the rider and three pupils.

The deceased has been identified as Tairan Kamba, a pupil at St. Daniel Nursery and Primary School. He was killed on the spot. The injured include Faridah Ismail Andezo, 18, a Senior Three student at Aringa Secondary School, as well as two younger children aged six and four.

Police say preliminary investigations point to reckless driving on the part of the vehicle operator, who lost control and veered into the motorcycle’s path. Both the vehicle and the motorcycle have been impounded at Yumbe Central Police Station.

The injured victims were rushed to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, while Kamba’s body was taken to the hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
