Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Kawala Rachael has revealed that security agencies have arrested a 20 year old man identified as Ivan Musana over making inciting statements and wearing a military jacket in a video circulating on social media.

According to Kawala, preliminary investigations found that Musana is not a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces.

“Findings further indicate that the suspect falsely presented himself as a UPDF officer while recording the video, which was later uploaded to TikTok” she said.

Kawala revealed that Musana was tracked down and arrested in Bukedea District and is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue.

“The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal review and advice” she said.

Kawala further urged the public to use social media responsibly as the country heads to the polls next week.

“Content that may constitute threats, hate speech, or impersonation of security personnel is punishable under the law and may result in prosecution”
