The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the departure of its General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba, after more than five years of service.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe expressed deep gratitude for Mosengo-Omba’s contribution to African football, describing his tenure as pivotal in driving growth and development across the continent.

Speaking at a press conference, Dr Motsepe said: “We are enormously grateful to Véron for his contribution to African Football and the work he has done for the development and growth of the game on the continent. We will, at a later stage, give Véron proper recognition and have an occasion where we will express our gratitude to him and to his family.”

Mosengo-Omba, who previously held senior roles in FIFA before joining CAF, announced that he will now focus on personal projects after a career spanning more than three decades in international football administration.

In his farewell statement, he emphasised the unifying power of the sport:

“After more than 30 years of an international professional career dedicated to promoting an ideal of football that brings people together, educates and creates opportunities for hope, I have decided to step down from my position as General Secretary of CAF in order to devote myself to more personal projects.”

CAF confirmed that Samson Adamu will assume the role of interim General Secretary while the process to appoint a permanent successor is underway. Adamu, who has overseen CAF competitions in recent years, is expected to provide continuity during the transition.
