The Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala Nsekere, yesterday, Monday, 1st September 2025, launched the Kyabazinga 7s Rugby Tournament at Kati Kati, Lugogo in Kampala.

Representing the Kyabazinga, Dr. Muvawala highlighted the importance of sport in promoting unity, identity, and community growth.

Drawing from his personal experience as a rugby player in 1999, he spoke about the deep connection between culture and athletics.

“Culture and sports are attached and very emotional,” he said. “I thank the Uganda Rugby Union for guiding and growing that emotion in the right way.”

Dr. Muvawala pledged the kingdom’s full support for the tournament, calling it a symbol of unity across Busoga.

“As a kingdom, we stand for unity. My presence here shows our commitment, and we’ll do whatever it takes to support rugby,” he affirmed.

He also invited all Basoga, including schools under the kingdom, to take part in the tournament.

In a lighter moment, he expressed hope that the newly born twin princes, Prince William Ethan Nadiope and Prince Arnold Eli Nadiope, born on August 27, would one day play rugby.

The launch was attended by Uganda Rugby Union (URU) officials, Walukuba Barbarians executives, and tournament partners for supporting rugby’s growth nationwide.
