Toyota Buffaloes were crowned the champions of the National Rugby 7s Kabale series by beating table leaders Walukuba Barbarians 14-12 at the grand finale held at Kabale Municipal Stadium on 23rd September 2025.
Dreaming of having the first title in so many years, the Toyota Buffalos did everything in their power to make sure they got a win in the 6th outing, making them a strong team for the championship in the final round this weekend in Kampala.
They had a well-organised plan of beating their favourites, Heathens, with a strong win of 10-5 in the semifinals, and Barbarians beat Pirates 28-26 in a tight game. With just one circuit left, the title race is still open. Walukuba only need a podium finish in the final round to be crowned champions, while Buffalos and Heathens also remain strong contenders.
In the women’s category, Thunderbirds claimed the title after edging Nile Rapids 15-10 in an entertaining final. The victory extended their lead on the table, making them virtually uncatchable with one round remaining.
