Ugandan opposition leader and musician Bobi Wine has shared his first official photo from the United States, days after announcing that he had “briefly” left the country to handle important matters abroad.

On March 13, 2026, Bobi Wine revealed that he would be away for a short period, explaining that he planned to meet friends and allies across the world before eventually returning to Uganda.

Now, he has offered a glimpse into those engagements. Taking to social media, Bobi Wine posted a photo of himself standing outside Capitol Hill.

“Started my international engagements today with meetings on Capitol Hill, in Washington DC,” he wrote.

His departure follows weeks of tension back home. On January 16, shortly after the general elections, Bobi Wine reportedly left his residence citing intelligence that he was at risk of arrest. He said the move was necessary to protect his life, even though it meant leaving behind his wife at their home in Magere.

Days later, on the night of January 23, his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, was reportedly assaulted when security operatives allegedly forced their way into the residence. During the incident, property was damaged and several belongings were taken.

The situation at their home has remained tense, with reports indicating that the residence is still under police siege and access remains restricted.

Barbie Kyagulanyi and the couple’s children have since managed to leave the country. Bobi Wine later revealed during a conversation linked to the 18th Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy that his family had to relocate for their own safety. They are believed to currently be in the United States as well.

As his international engagements begin, all eyes will be on what comes next for Bobi Wine and his political activities abroad.
