Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, best known by his stage name Dr. Jose Chameleone, has revealed his main inspiration behind his biggest songs, Badilisha and Kuma Obwesigwa.

In an interview with Rwanda station, Jose Chameleone said that the storyline behind the Badilisha song was inspired by his now-separated wife, Daniella Atim.

Jose Chameleone said that there was a time when he was acting weird at home, going hours and coming back with no regard for anyone’s feelings. His wife frequently expressed her dissatisfaction, reminding him that she didn’t marry just a house.

One morning, he returned home and found his child’s mother sweeping the yard, and she greeted him warmly. After that, he went to bed, but when he awoke, he discovered her sitting on the bed in tears, looking at him with pain in her eyes.

Chameleone stated that he didn’t say anything to her; instead, he returned to the studio to find solace because he felt remorseful. It was there that he wrote Badilisha, which directly reflected the sadness and feelings of abandonment his wife was experiencing at that moment.

For Kuma Obwesigwa, he shared that it came from an experience with his first wife, Mzungu Dorotia. He recounted how, during a performance in Mityana, his then-wife insisted on accompanying him because she felt insecure. Chameleone noted that the producer even let them down for that show, but on their journey back, it started pouring rain on his convertible car.
