Events promoter Abbey Musinguzi, widely known as Abitex, is brushing off critics and focusing on a potential game-changing role in President Yoweri Museveni’s government.

In a candid revelation, Abitex disclosed that he directly requested a government appointment during a recent high-level meeting with the President.

He is pushing for a position as Presidential Envoy for Events and Entertainment, aiming to provide direct representation for promoters at the apex of power.

Abitex emphasised that the role would champion the interests of the events and entertainment sector, which contributes significantly to Uganda’s economy yet often receives limited official attention.

He highlighted his successful lobbying efforts that secured billions of shillings in support for promoters via their SACCO, framing the new push as a logical step toward greater political recognition.

“I told him that since musicians have representation, we promoters also needed one. I even wrote it down—something like Presidential Envoy in events and entertainment. He accepted, but now I’m waiting for the official confirmation,” Abitex explained.

He stressed humility in his approach, noting his limited formal education—he stopped at P3 West at Kijjabwemi in the first term—and deliberately avoided requesting heavy protocols or a security detail to keep a low profile. “I asked for simple things,” he added.
Industry insiders see this as a strategic move amid recent successes, including government loans to bolster the sector.

If confirmed, the appointment could empower Abitex to influence policy, funding, and growth for Uganda’s vibrant creative economy. Fans and colleagues are watching closely for the official announcement, which could mark a milestone for event promoters nationwide.
