The band was formed in 1975 by a group of eight musicians led by Moses Matovu, and they have released 22 albums with over 200 songs.

The band has been the soundtrack of many music lovers’ lives with their songs punctuating joy, celebrations, marriage and death.

Speaking at the press briefing today held at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, was Ali Alibhai, the Talent Africa Group CEO, who said that “The Legends of Sound Afrigo at 50 is about celebrating our icons while they are still on stage. It is also a reminder to the next generation of what true consistency and musical excellence look like.”

“Afrigo Band at 50 years is a milestone that deserves great celebration. We honour the legends who have shaped Uganda’s music and cultural identity throughout the decades,” said Ali Alibhai.

He also added that the event will set a new standard for celebrating Ugandan musical legends and inspire audiences to focus on building legacies, not just hits.

Addressing the media was Moses Matovu of Afrigo Band, who said that Afrigo has managed to stay strong all these years because they have been working together, staying active, loving what they do, and always putting their fans first.
