Police in Katwe have arrested a boda boda rider suspected of murdering his girlfriend, a woman who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia, and hiding her body inside a travel bag at her home in Masajja, Wakiso District.

The victim, identified as 34-year-old Lilian Katusiime, was found dead inside a large travel bag at her residence in Masajja Kibira B, Masajja Division, after neighbours became suspicious of her prolonged absence and noticed her boyfriend removing property from her shop.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the murder is believed to have happened between November 1 and 2, 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Katusiime had recently returned from Saudi Arabia and rented a double-roomed house in Masajja Kibira B, where she also operated a retail shop selling drinks, offering mobile money services and dealing in popcorn and other merchandise.

She was reportedly in a romantic relationship with Eddy Mulika, a boda boda rider who frequently transported her.

According to Kawala, suspicion arose on November 2, 2026, when a neighbour who operates a business near Katusiime’s shop noticed Mulika removing several items, including a refrigerator, drinks and other merchandise.

The neighbour became concerned because Katusiime had not been seen for some time.

When asked about her whereabouts, Mulika reportedly claimed that she was sick and had been admitted to Mulago National Referral Hospital. However, when neighbours asked him to open the house, he allegedly fled.

Those who subsequently accessed the house made the shocking discovery of Katusiime’s body stuffed inside a large travel bag. Her body had reportedly been folded, tied and placed inside the bag alongside clothes in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal it as ordinary luggage.

Police have also arrested Fred Ssewaanga, another boda boda rider suspected of helping transport some of Katusiime’s property, as investigations continue.

Kawala said detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder, the possible motive and whether other people were involved.
