Police have confirmed that about 22 people have been rescued following the collapse of a building under construction at Holy City Church, Brother Ronnie’s Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, October 26, 2026, the Uganda Police Force said rescue operations were ongoing as emergency teams worked to establish whether more people remained trapped beneath the rubble.

The rescued victims were being evacuated to Entebbe Grade B hospital facilities for medical attention, according to police.

“Rescue operations are ongoing, with approximately 22 people rescued so far and being evacuated to Entebbe Grade B hospital facilities for medical attention,” police said in a statement shared on social media.

Police said officers were still working to determine whether anyone remained trapped inside the collapsed structure as rescue efforts continued.

Four-Storey Church Extension Collapses

Preliminary findings indicate that the collapsed structure was an extension of the main church building and had reached the fourth floor before the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the collapse remain unclear, with police confirming that investigations into the cause are underway.

The incident occurred at Holy City Church, associated with Pastor Ronnie Makabai, popularly known as Brother Ronnie.

The collapse triggered an emergency response, with rescuers working to reach people who may have been caught inside the building when it came down.

Police Begin Investigations

Police have yet to establish the cause of the collapse or disclose whether any construction-related safety concerns had been identified before the incident.

Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances under which the structure collapsed and determine whether any safety or construction requirements were breached.

The number of people rescued could change as the operation progresses, while the condition of those evacuated for medical attention was not immediately disclosed in the police statement.

Authorities had also not confirmed whether any fatalities had occurred by the time of the latest update.

The incident remains under investigation, with rescue teams continuing efforts to establish the full extent of the disaster.

This is a developing story.
