Ugandan authorities have seized a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan belonging to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged illicit enrichment and corruption.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID), working alongside the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and other security agencies, towed the high-end vehicle from Among’s residence in Kigo, Wakiso District. A police low-bed truck was used to transport the vehicle under a heavy security presence around the property.
The operation follows coordinated weekend raids on Among’s properties in Nakasero and Kigo, during which security teams reportedly searched the premises for more than 16 hours and recovered documents and other items considered relevant to the investigation.
During the operation, Among is said to have declined to grant investigators direct access to the vehicle, prompting its forcible seizure for forensic examination. Two staff members were also reportedly detained to assist with ongoing inquiries.
The Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a 2025 model valued at approximately Shs3.4 billion, was reportedly imported from the United Kingdom and cleared through Entebbe International Airport under “Anita Foundation Limited.”
The acquisition has drawn public scrutiny amid questions over the source of funding, particularly in light of previous allegations and sanctions-related reports connected to graft investigations, including the Karamoja iron sheets scandal.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is reported to have ordered a probe into Among’s assets following complaints of unexplained wealth. However, no formal charges have been filed as investigations continue.
The seizure has sparked widespread public debate on accountability among public officials. Among has not yet issued any public statement regarding the matter.
