The NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong has said the ruling party is extending an olive branch to attend the forthcoming retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

“We are even inviting members of opposition if they are willing to come and learn because what is to be discussed is about the future of Uganda. It is important if opposition comes to attend. This retreat gives you some of the basics you might not be able to know about this country in a way you will appreciate where this country has reached,” Todwong said.

He was on Thursday addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kyadondo ahead of next week’s retreat.

Todwong said all newly elected MP affiliated to NRM and independents who are willing to get affiliated to NRM are also expected to attend the retreat running between April 7 to 15.

“This retreat is important because in the culture of the party, we use it to bond with newly elected leaders to understand their constituencies and many other issues.”

The NRM deputy Secretary General, Rose Namayanja Nsereko said the retreat will run under the theme of aligning NRM leaders towards protecting gains and making qualitative leap to middle income economy.

She said it will be used to align the MPs who are tasked with responsibility to ensure whatever goes on in parliament is intended to implement the ruling party’s  manifesto .

Namayanja said the retreat will be used to ensure the newly elected MPs get grounded into the NRM ideology.

“There will be topics on regional integration and geo politics and the global setting, Uganda’s security apparatus, instruments of the state, political economy, the theory of Musevenomics. We shall also use the retreat to unpack the higher middle income status and how we intend to achieve it.”

“We shall also discuss the role of infrastructure in social economic transformation of the country, the role of agriculture and the parliament, its mandate, processes and managing public expectations. We shall also handle managing cohesion within the party and how parliament operates within multiparty dispensation.”
