Kyankwanzi District: A passenger bus and a cargo truck collided head-on along the Kiboga–Hoima Highway.

The crash involved a bus, registration number UBQ 595G, en route from Kampala to Hoima, and a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBF 541C, which was transporting charcoal from Hoima.

The force of the impact sparked a massive fire that reduced both vehicles to twisted, charred wreckage.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson Lameck Kigozi confirmed that six people died instantly at the scene.

Among the deceased were two individuals traveling in the bus and four occupants of the truck.

Seven other victims sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kikonda Health Centre III for emergency treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to the mortuary at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital pending identification and postmortem procedures.

Police identified two of the dead as Muhumuza Gerald, 40, the bus driver and a resident of Hoima West Division, and Linongola Matsukizo, 47, a Congolese national engaged in business activities.

Authorities said efforts were ongoing to establish the identities of the four individuals who had been traveling in the truck.

Emergency responders from Kyankwanzi and Hoima districts, supported by a fire brigade unit from Hoima, battled the flames and secured the scene.

However, both vehicles were completely destroyed.

The wreckage remained along the roadside as towing arrangements were underway, leaving the highway partially blocked and causing traffic disruptions.

Motorists have been urged to approach the area with caution.

Preliminary findings point to overspeeding and reckless driving as the likely causes of the fatal collision.

Police have renewed their appeal to drivers to observe speed limits and road safety measures, particularly along major highways where traffic volumes remain high.
