Police Arrest Five Suspects Linked to Aggravated Robberies in Kampala

Kampala, Uganda — Security agencies have arrested five suspects in connection with a series of aggravated robberies in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area and recovered three firearms following an intelligence-led operation.

The arrests were carried out between January 24 and 27, 2026, during coordinated operations in Kiti A Zone, Kirinya Parish, Bweyogerere Division, Wakiso District, according to police.

The suspects have been identified as Amutuhairwe Robinson, a discharged former army personnel; Okello Daniel, a security guard working with Fortebet; Kasango Arafat; Luyirika Joseph Innocent; and Alphonse Daniel.

During the operation, officers recovered three guns and three magazines, among other exhibits believed to have been used in criminal activities.

Police say that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bagenda Emmanuel, the Officer-in-Charge of Ntawo.

ASP Bagenda was shot dead on November 23, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m., along the Ntawo–Nyenje Road in Ntawo Cell, Ntawo Ward, Mukono Central Division, Mukono District.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the slain officer was attacked while on patrol after responding to intelligence related to an armed robbery in the area.

Authorities further revealed that the suspects admitted to participating in several aggravated robberies, particularly mobile money robberies, across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest additional suspects believed to be connected to the robbery network.

Security agencies have commended officers involved in the operation for their dedication and professionalism, assuring the public that all violent criminal acts will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to their logical conclusion.
