Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello has completed a move to Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC (Yanga), signing a three-year contract reportedly worth Shs 1.08 billion (approximately $300,000).
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, popularly known as “Star Boy,” becomes the second-highest football transfer involving a Ugandan player, behind Farouk Miya’s Shs 1.4 billion move to Belgium in 2016.
Okello joined Vipers SC in September 2023 as a free agent after leaving Algerian club AC Paradou. At the time of the transfer to Yanga, he had six months remaining on his contract with the Kitende-based side.
Yanga President Hersi Said traveled to Uganda on Friday to finalize the deal, holding talks with Vipers SC chairman Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa.
Images of the two club officials exchanging jerseys circulated on social media ahead of the official announcement, fueling excitement among football fans in Uganda and Tanzania.
