KAMPALA, UGANDA – Renowned Ugandan author and media executive Joan Vumilia has issued a formal call to the Uganda NGO Bureau to streamline registration processes for organizations focused on digital literacy and youth media advocacy.
Speaking in her dual capacity as a celebrated Author and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Block FM, Vumilia emphasized that the current regulatory landscape must evolve to support the “new economy” of digital content creators and online broadcasters.
Advocacy for the Digital Sector
Vumilia, who also serves as the Secretary for the National Association of Online Broadcasters and Publishers (NAOBP), argued that many grassroots organizations are struggling to meet the stringent requirements of the NGO Bureau. She noted that these hurdles prevent youth-led initiatives from accessing international funding and professional development resources.
“As an author who documents the success stories of the next generation, I see firsthand the talent being stifled by administrative red tape,” Vumilia stated. “The NGO Bureau must recognize digital media advocacy as a critical sector for Uganda’s socio-economic growth.”
