NUP’s presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said Uganda will hold fresh elections once what he described as a “dictatorial system” is dismantled and the rule of law restored.

Speaking at campaign rallies in Mpigi District on Saturday, Bobi Wine said removing President Yoweri Museveni from power would allow the Constitution to function and enable nationwide by-elections conducted in a lawful manner.

“After removing the dictator, the laws will resume working effectively and elections will be held afresh in the rightful manner,” he told supporters.

He said the process would return power to voters, whom the Constitution mandates to choose their leaders.

He raised concern over the Electoral Commission, noting that seven NUP candidates have so far been unlawfully disqualified

Bobi Wine also comforted musician-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga, whose Busiro East candidature was recently nullified by the Electoral Commission, saying justice would come in time.

“They can’t stop the clock. At the right time, the laws will work,” he said.

The NUP leader addressed rallies at Katende Playground in Kiringente Sub-county, Mawokota North, and later at Mitala Maria Playground in Buwama Town Council, Mawokota South.

He was received by NUP leaders including Deputy President for Buganda region Muwanga Kivumbi, Mpigi Woman MP Teddy Nambooze, Mawokota North MP Hillary Kiyaga, and Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi.

Bobi Wine urged supporters to cast a protest vote, as crowds responded with chants and cheers.
