Kampala / Silicon Valley — Angela Jiang, an early product manager at OpenAI, has quietly launched a new AI startup named Worktrace AI, with backing from notable figures including former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.

Worktrace AI is designed to help businesses identify and automate repetitive tasks by “observing” employee workflows, using AI to detect sequences that can be handled without human intervention. Jiang co‑founded the company with Deepak Vasisht, an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Illinois.

While the company remains in stealth mode, documents and job listings suggest that Worktrace AI was in talks this summer to raise 10 million in a seed round at a50 million valuation. [1] Supporters include Nick Turley (head of ChatGPT), Jason Kwon (OpenAI’s strategy lead), Joanne Jang (former ChatGPT team lead), and OpenAI’s Startup Fund, as well as venture firms 8VC and Conviction.

Jiang had served as OpenAI’s third product manager, contributing to the development of ChatGPT’s core models before transitioning to the policy team. According to her LinkedIn profile, she departed OpenAI in December 2024.
