E-commerce giant Jumia has announced a groundbreaking partnership with electric mobility company Spiro to roll out electric motorcycle deliveries in Kampala. The initiative is designed to cut carbon emissions, reduce operational costs, and promote sustainable urban logistics in Uganda’s bustling capital.

Under the new collaboration, Jumia delivery agents will begin using Spiro’s e-bikes to complete last-mile deliveries. The move comes as Uganda, like many African countries, steps up efforts to embrace clean mobility and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

According to Jumia Uganda, the adoption of electric bikes will not only support the company’s commitment to sustainability but also offer riders more affordable and reliable transport solutions. E-bikes significantly reduce maintenance costs and eliminate the need for costly fuel, creating a win-win scenario for both riders and customers.

Spiro, which has quickly expanded its footprint across Africa, has already deployed over 10,000 electric motorcycles in Uganda within just 15 months of operations. The company has also established a growing battery swap network, ensuring that riders can access fully charged batteries at designated points around Kampala.

Commenting on the partnership, Spiro leadership emphasized that this collaboration is about more than technology, it’s about creating cleaner cities and empowering communities. By integrating sustainable transport into e-commerce logistics, the company hopes to showcase the wider potential of EV adoption in everyday life.

Industry experts say this initiative could serve as a blueprint for other e-commerce platforms and logistics providers across the region. With rising fuel costs and growing pressure to cut carbon emissions, partnerships like Jumia and Spiro’s could accelerate Uganda’s transition to a greener future.

As Kampala continues to grapple with congestion and pollution, the entry of electric bike deliveries marks a major milestone in the country’s e-mobility journey. For riders, customers, and the environment, the shift to clean mobility promises lasting impact.
