Shamim Malende Gets Political Backing from Ex-Husband After Breakup

Shamim Malende and her former husband, Andrew Ssebunya, are no longer on good terms following a recent public breakup. Malende confirmed the separation, accusing Ssebunya of seizing some of her property, including vehicles.

After the split, Malende left their home in Kawempe, Kampala, and relocated to Wakiso. The development has drawn public attention, particularly because both have been active in Kampala’s political space.

Despite the personal fallout, Ssebunya has pledged to continue supporting Malende’s political career. Speaking to a local YouTuber, he said:

“I am living alone here because she already moved away and is currently in Wakiso. I will continue supporting her politically, and I believe she deserves the NUP party flag again to represent the people of Kampala in parliament.”

He added that he holds no resentment toward Malende and intends to help preserve her public image despite their differences. His remarks have surprised many, as they reflect a separation of personal disputes from political collaboration.

Currently, Malende is seeking the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, facing stiff competition from Zahara Luyirika, the Speaker of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Analysts note that Ssebunya’s backing could boost Malende’s chances in the upcoming party primaries and stands as a rare example of ex-partners maintaining a professional alliance for political purposes.
