Gladys Baligonzaki Kajura has been appointed as Mulago Hospital’s new head of public affairs and communication, ending a nearly five-year gap since the position was last substantively filled.

Baligonzaki, formerly a senior communication officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, takes over from Enoch Kusasira, who left in 2021 to join Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited as Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs.

Her appointment is part of broader posting and reposting in government ministries and agencies communications and public relations departments, overseen by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, which has recently effected several deployments and movements.

When contacted, Baligonzaki declined to confirm her new posting, instead referring inquiries to the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT, Dr Amina Zawedde, who could not be reached as she is reportedly out of the country.

However, sources at both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed her redeployment.

Since Kusasira’s departure, Mulago Hospital has been operating without a substantive spokesperson.

Grace Mirembe Nankwanga has been serving as Public Relations Officer, handling media relations and public communications for the hospital complex.
