The National Unity Platform (NUP) President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has officially launched the party’s new regional headquarters in Iganga Town, Busoga Sub-region.
He was accompanied by his wife, Barbie Itungo, Deputy President for the Eastern Region Linda Zedrig, Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, Party Spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, Deputy Spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro, and several Members of Parliament including Betty Nambooze and Hillary Kiyaga.
Speaking at the inauguration, Kyagulanyi revealed that NUP quietly acquired land and constructed the offices over the past year, deliberately keeping the project secret to avoid interference.
“We purchased this land more than a year ago and began construction. I am thankful that until this morning, only a few people knew it was our project. No wonder the police turned up asking why we surprised them with our visit,” he said.
He explained that the secrecy was strategic:
“If they had known earlier, they would have done everything possible to frustrate us.”
The NUP leader praised party members for their commitment, stressing that the regional office will be a hub for mobilization and coordination across Eastern Uganda.
“These headquarters will direct our revolutionary activities in the region and serve as a center for coordinating our efforts. This demonstrates our commitment to building a party that will live beyond us,” Kyagulanyi declared.
A key highlight of the ceremony was his remarks about former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, who has recently clashed with some members of the ruling NRM party. Kyagulanyi described Kadaga as a respected leader and welcomed the possibility of working with her.
“You call her Mama Busoga, I call her my Auntie. For us in NUP, we have no problem with her, and we warmly welcome her,” he said.
Kyagulanyi also applauded NUP leaders and supporters who worked tirelessly to realize the milestone, emphasizing that the office is part of the party’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots structures nationwide ahead of the 2026 general elections.
