Police in Kampala have launched a manhunt for a private security guard accused of shooting his employer dead before fleeing with cash and a vehicle.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, identified the suspect as Hillary Byaruhanga, a guard attached to Don World Security Limited, who is currently on the run.

According to Owoyesigyire, Byaruhanga allegedly shot Anthony Mutinisa, the proprietor of Mutinisa Motors Uganda, on Sunday at the company’s offices located along Martyrs Way in Ntinda. The guard is said to have taken off with the deceased’s vehicle and a bag containing an unspecified amount of money.

Police officers from Ntinda and Kira Road stations responded to the scene, where they recovered the firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting, along with four rounds of ammunition.

“We strongly condemn such an act. It is unfortunate that a security guard hired to protect his employer instead took his life and robbed him of his property,” Owoyesigyire said.

He added that police are working closely with Don World Security Limited to track down the suspect.

The police also advised employers to carry out thorough background checks on individuals they hire as guards and to ensure regular supervision.
