Police in Nakasongola District have arrested a man accused of beheading his friend and attempting to sell the severed head in Kampala for suspected ritual purposes.

The suspect, John Isoke, was intercepted by residents of Kyandigita-Bujumbula Village in Nabiswera Sub-county while fleeing with the head wrapped in a brown polythene bag.

Savannah Region Police Spokesperson SP Sam Twiineamazima said the discovery was made on Tuesday morning after Ketty Namuga, a farm manager and Isoke’s former employer, found her worker, Herbert Ameir, murdered and beheaded.

Namuga, accompanied by a new employee, had seen Isoke leaving the scene suspiciously and raised an alarm. Residents chased and caught him. He dropped the bag and was later handed over to Migyera Police Station.

Upon interrogation, Isoke confessed to killing Ameir and said he was transporting the head to Kisenyi in Kampala to sell it for ritual use.

Police recovered a blood-stained panga near the body, believed to be the murder weapon.

Investigations are ongoing at Nakasongola Police Station to determine the motive and whether other individuals are involved in the suspected ritual trade.
