Renowned gospel singer and preacher Pastor Wilson Bugembe has opened up about why he chooses not to take political sides between National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Bobi Wine and President Yoweri Museveni.

Speaking candidly, Bugembe revealed that both men played key roles in shaping his early life and career, making it difficult for him to support one over the other.

“When I was starting to sing, for my songs to become big, it was because of Bobi Wine,” Bugembe shared. “He was in my songs like Komawo Eka.”

According to Bugembe, Bobi Wine’s influence and support helped elevate his music at a crucial time in his journey as a young artist.

Bugembe also credited President Museveni with providing him a chance at education when his family could no longer afford school fees. “When I had failed to raise school fees for my education, President Museveni introduced UPE [Universal Primary Education], and I was able to return to school,” he said.

He further recalled a time years later when he was invited to sing for President Museveni.

“I remembered how UPE helped me go back to school and also the fact that the government never stopped my church from operating when I was just 19 years old.”

Bugembe emphasized that his neutrality is not about indecisiveness but about gratitude and respect for both individuals. “Therefore, I want both sides to understand me,” he said, calling for unity and understanding amidst Uganda’s often polarized political environment.
